Matawan recounts the true story of a shark who terrorized the coast of New Jersey in 1916 - from the shark’s point of view. Dan Caffrey’s dynamic script wrenches the human stories from our grasp and encourages us to empathize with the shark. In this production, a movement ensemble for her body and a single voice and emotional figure at the helm created a desperation and distinctive beauty that humanized her tragic tale.
